The Chicken and the Egg

Taking a pause and a breather from my coursework, I completed this little project which has been stuck in my mind for a while. This was apparently the Worlds funniest joke a few years back. So, I present to you a short animation- The Chicken and the Egg

Justice Has Been Served - Final Cut

Well, after mucho learning by making mistakes, always the best way I find, I have completed Project One from the Rogue Animator course run by 2danimation101.com

The final render of the animation was carried out using ShotCut, a free video editor and I'm not too happy with my final rendering result, but it will do for this stage of the course.

Project Two will be my solo work and will complete the course. It will be interesting to see what I come up with.

Useful software - Visolve - assistive software for the colourblind

I use this software on my PC to help differentiate between Red and Green on menus in certain programmes. You overlay the Visolve Deflector and capture part of the screen, then apply filters. It literally takes seconds to use. It would be nice if you could just scroll a transparent window over an area to apply the filters live, rather than having to capture an image, but it is the best tool I have found so far. Visit Visolve for more info.

The Lonely Farmer

In this short animation using a song from Josh Woodward and adapted images from Freepik, I was testing out LiveFace on CrazyTalk Animator. It probably would have been better if I'd used a forward facing facial image rather than one looking off to the side, but I don't think it has come out too bad.

Using a Graphics Tablet Pen

I found this video useful when I was getting bad results and a sore wrist by trying to use the graphics tablet pen like it was a normal pencil. The techniques are easy to use.

Proving anyone can draw

This is a very inspirational video from TEDx and I would encourage you to watch it.

It's only 15 minutes long. Have pencil and paper at hand to follow along. Enjoy.

My results from watching the video and following along when appropriate:

The amazing thing for me is that I drew all these in real time following along to the video.

Based on a joke found on the Internet.

PS3 pausing whilst using BBC iPlayer over Wi-Fi.

A slightly different than normal post, but I found the following video very useful after I was having problems with pauses every couple of minutes on iPlayer on the PS3 whilst watching the 1st episode of the new Dr Who series. I implemented the suggestions on the video and, "Viola!", problem seems to be solved. Not only could I watch uninterrupted programs in SD, but I was even able to change to HD.  I don't think it was a speed error that was causing the buffering problem and thus the pauses, rather I think the problem was in the non-continuous nature of the connection. Anyhow, the following worked for me, so well done to TheApacheKing for posting it.

The Genie in the Bottle

One of my own little animations created in Crazy Talk Animator 3, based on a joke I heard many, many years ago. More animations over at my YouTube channel.

Cartoon props, clipart, whatever you want to call them.

I'm currently creating a new animation over at my YouTube channel. I've created a few of my own props for use in the animation and display them here in this post for you to make use of in your own work if you so wish. No attribution required, but if you do wish to say where you got them from , then please do. (I'll be adding the props to this post as I create them and will link to the finished animation when I'm done.) Some of the props and artwork are licensed under separate conditions, so I cannot repost them individually.

The Monster Under My Bed

An interesting animation, especially with Halloween coming soon.

Not-so-bad- Wolf cartoon

And, as I get close to completing the 25 Quick Cartoon Characters book, I have this interpretation of the guide on pages 28 and 29 - the Not-so-bad Wolf. Only two more guides to go before I complete the book.

This Little Piggy

This little piggy had ice cream! This Little Piggy created in Affinity Designer, more or less following the guide in 25 Quick Cartoon Characters.

This Little Piggy
English nursery rhyme

This little piggy went to market,
This little piggy stayed home,
This little piggy had roast beef,
This little piggy had none,
And this little piggy cried "wee wee wee" all the way home.

Design based upon an interlaced Celtic Knot

This design based on an interlaced celtic knot was created in Affinity Designer using the custom rotation feature as described in the Affinity Designer - Rotation Point Worked Example.

Modest Tiger cartoon recreated in Affinity Designer

Recreated from the guide on page 24 and 25 of 25 Quick Cartoon Characters, Modest Tiger cartoon has been a fantastic opportunity to try out the layers feature in the program. Mixing vector layers with  pixel layers allows for a multitude of drawing and painting methods to be used.

The Tyger
by William Blake

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp,
Dare its deadly terrors clasp!

When the stars threw down their spears
And water'd heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Very clever and thought provoking short animation.

Brown Bear Cartoon

Brown Bear Cartoon recreated from the guide in 25 Quick Cartoon Characters.

The Bear by Robert Frost

The bear puts both arms around the tree above her
And draws it down as if it were a lover
And its choke cherries lips to kiss good-bye,
Then lets it snap back upright in the sky.
Her next step rocks a boulder on the wall
(She's making her cross-country in the fall).
Her great weight creaks the barbed-wire in its staples
As she flings over and off down through the maples,
Leaving on one wire moth a lock of hair.
Such is the uncaged progress of the bear.
The world has room to make a bear feel free;
The universe seems cramped to you and me.
Man acts more like the poor bear in a cage
That all day fights a nervous inward rage~
His mood rejecting all his mind suggests.
He paces back and forth and never rests
The me-nail click and shuffle of his feet,
The telescope at one end of his beat~
And at the other end the microscope,
Two instruments of nearly equal hope,
And in conjunction giving quite a spread.
Or if he rests from scientific tread,
'Tis only to sit back and sway his head
Through ninety odd degrees of arc, it seems,
Between two metaphysical extremes.
He sits back on his fundamental butt
With lifted snout and eyes (if any) shut,
(lie almost looks religious but he's not),
And back and forth he sways from cheek to cheek,
At one extreme agreeing with one Greek~
At the other agreeing with another Greek
Which may be thought, but only so to speak.
A baggy figure, equally pathetic
When sedentary and when peripatetic.

Beaver cartoon

My rendition of the beaver cartoon from page 21 of 25 Quick Cartoon Characters.

Beavers in the Bathroom by Emily Wimetal

There are beavers in the bathroom
swimming circles in the tub
where the beavers have decided
to convene their swimming club.
In their little beaver Speedos
and their beaver bathing caps,
they've been splashing rather happily
while practicing their laps.
They've been studying the butterfly,
the backstroke and the crawl,
and it's obvious they like it
and they're having quite a ball.
For we hear them all the time
but we don't see them anymore,
ever since they built a beaver dam
behind the bathroom door.

Perky Penguin cartoon

Perky Penguin reproduced in Affinity Designer from 25 Quick Cartoon Characters by Christopher Hart. Still 7 characters left to try from this excellent little book, and whilst I want to move on, I am going to force myself to complete the rest of them.

Baby Chick cartoon

Baby Chick recreated using Affinity Designer, from the book 25 Quick Cartoon Characters by Christopher Hart.

I feel as though I am just scratching the surface in learning both affinity designer and cartooning, but I feel it worth while taking time on the basics to move along at a steady learning speed.

The funny side

"I just found out I'm colourblind. It came completely out of the purple."

..ooOOoo..

"White collar. blue collar. Makes no difference to me 'cos I'm collar-blind."
